Macaookies?

DSCF0051

I decided today that with all the talk on Twitter about macaroons that I would be daring and try to make some.  I’d never made any before and though really “how hard could it be?!”  That was my first mistake, although I’m not sure if this is what they are supposed to look like, they do however taste delicious!  I think I am partial to the chewier ones.  I’m pretty sure macaroons aren’t supposed to chewy.  Hmmmm.  I suppose this gives me a reason to try making them again.  Always room for improvement!

Wow, it’s been too long.

Note:  I started writing this last week sorry for the past and present tense!

I had good intentions of writing up my food journal last night when I was slacking from painting Lukah’s room with Tim but I didn’t.  Riley woke up with a monstrous nose bleed and that kept my busy until the wee hours of the morning.  I kinda fell asleep in his bed waiting for him to go back to sleep.  Poor little guy I always feel bad for him when he gets woken up but nose bleeds/vomit/scary noises.  The night before I just didn’t do it.  I had other things to do that seemed important at the time even though I can’t remember what they were.  Anyways, here it goes for Thursday!

How to make baby food

Yup, that is what I started my day by doing.  I’m going to admit that I have been buying Heinz Organic baby food for Lukah.  It’s convenient and easy.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with jarred baby food, but I do have to admit that making it myself for my little screaming billy-goat makes me feel like I’m being a better Momma.  I haven’t had a lot of time to make baby food in the past month since he started eating it so I actually planned it and put it in my Google calendar for today.  I had bought some organic pears from the Farmer’s Market last weekend and was waiting for them to ripen up so they would have the optimum amount of sweetness.  I think if I would have waited another day they would have been over ripe and really hard to work with, great planning on my part.  It’ almost like I knew what I was doing, if only that was true!

Crap!!! - Daring Bakers Dobos

Posted in

The August 2009 Daring Bakers' challenge was hosted by Angela of A Spoonful of Sugar and Lorraine of Not Quite Nigella. They chose the spectacular Dobos
Torte based on a recipe from Rick Rodgers' cookbook Kaffeehaus:  Exquisite Desserts from the Classic Caffés of Vienna, Budapest, and Prague.

It really helps when you read the posting date for Daring Baker’s Challenge!!!  I am reading challenged and did not notice that it might be do ASAP until people started talking about it on twitter.  Oh Twitter, what would I do without you?!  So as of ten o’clock this morning I have been on the quest to finish the daring bakers challenge on time.  I grabbed both kids and we went to the grocery store to pick up a few items since I hadn’t planned and did not have everything I needed.  10 eggs needed…  I had five.  Yeah, that wasn’t going to work so off we go.

Cake

Do you know how hard it is to eat well when you are forced, yes that's right forced to make a cake in the middle of the week?  I can tell you very.  I haven’t eat any of it yet, but that is because it’s not quite done yet.  I much prefer when the Daring Bakers make it a weekend date you need to post by or I like it when I read the posting date and can make the cake on the weekend.  image

Crappy Post

Monday was fairly uneventful but I did have to go to that place where I do this thing with numbers.  Also known as accounting.  Yuck.  I know that I should be grateful and all that for having a place that I can go and do that but some days it’s really hard to be grateful when your 5.5 month old is screaming and won’t sit in his saucer or his bassinet or his car seat.  Also makes it hard for me to get anything done.  Ah well.  I’ll try again next week!

Sunday

From my garden this spring.

We decided to go to our friends today for a play date.  Riley and Lukah always have fun going to C, C, and S’s house.  Other than that we really didn’t do a lot today.  Boring and easy day overall.  My food intake wasn’t awful but wasn’t great either.  Lukah is being especially needy this evening and trying to suck my soul of out my body and make me lose the will to live, but it’s ok.  I hear babies try to do that occasionally. :P   I suppose I should also add that he is teething and is in quite a cranky mood lately.

iMac?

iMac I’ve been looking into getting a new computer.  Ours is about 3 years old now (just over three if my memory is correct).  I’m trying to decide between getting another PC or a Mac.  Decisions, decisions.  I’ve heard so many good things about Mac’s lately and with my new found love the iPhone I’m having a hard time deciding.  My other decision is between desktop and laptop.  I am leaning towards a lap top this time but I want a really big screen.  Suggestions?  Ideas?  Let me know what you think I should get.

My muchies so far today

Whoops!

So I went to bed last night after an exhausting day of doing stuff.  I totally forgot to post and that's why I am doing a quick recap right now.  Tim got up pretty early and finished shingling the roof which was great because it’s all done!!!  It looks pretty good and went a whole lot faster after he got the nail gun from a friend.  Glad to be done with the roof other than the vents but I don’t think (I’ve under estimated how long things will take the entire way so far) it’ll take much to get that done.  You can go to Tim’s Blog and look at the picture if you want.

Vanessa and John came over in the evening and John helped Tim with the garage door.  They got a lot done and what he and Tim and didn’t get done Tim is out working on with his dad right at this moment.  Thanks John for all the help!  We really appreciated it!

Salmon skewers and Handy Manny

Today is going ok with the food part.  I think.  The being a SAHM part was decent.  Riley was up at 4 he had a nightmare and Tim went in and laid with him…  and fell asleep.  So he took the car today as opposed to riding his bike like he has planned since he needs to leave at 5.  Ah well.

Riley came into my room this morning at 7.  I’m not a morning person but we got up and came downstairs, Handy Manny and Mickey’s Clubhouse were calling our name!  I think I have a little bit of a crush on Handy Manny, he can fix anything and is single, plus he’s got his own place and his own truck.  What more could a girl ask for?!  I need a handy man, my man is handy…  with a computer.  Not handy around the house.  Example:  Dishwasher is draining really slowly… he thinks “I’ll throw some vinegar in it to see if that helps!” I on the other hand take it apart and clean out all the *GAG* grossness caught in the drain screen.  Ta Da!  It works.  If I had Handy Manny around I bet you a lot more of my home improvement projects would be done!
